The Summit Health & Rehab Services, Inc., Peak Healthcare, and Serenity Psychiatric Services are proud to announce the newest member of our staff, Dr. Jennifer Gholson. Dr. Gholson has joined the staff as the Chief Medical Director for all three companies. She has solid experience in quality improvement, process improvement, evidence-based medicine and utilization review. She also has proven skills in building and maintaining collaborative relationships, as well as being knowledgeable in instructing and motivating coworkers. Her professional manner and personal commitment to high standards of integrity have carried her far in her career and have earned her many awards. In 2010, Dr. Gholson was named one of the Top 40 under 40 in the Mississippi Business Journal and in 2008, she was awarded the Keystone Award from McKesson Health Solutions for Texas Inpatient Reduction. Dr. Gholson is a member of many professional associations such as the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians, Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians Foundation, the Mississippi State Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. The Summit, Peak, and Serenity are all very excited to have Dr. Gholson on board and are fortunate to be able to utilize her excellent skills and expertise to further the success of all three companies.

New Service Added to Outpatient Clinic

We are excited to announce the launch of our newest service, Comprehensive Industrial Rehabilitation Training. In an effort to expand our premium rehabilitation services to include specialized treatment of the injured worker, The Summit Health & Rehab will offer full Functional Capacity Evaluations, Work Hardening and Work Conditioning beginning February 15, 2010. We now offer the highest and most recognized international certification within the field of industrial rehab and ergonomics, and our goal is the industry Gold Standard, 90% return to work.

Medicare Therapy Caps

Medicare Therapy Caps return for 2010. Financial limitations for therapy services under Medicare B insurance are in effect as of January 1, 2010. The amount of the cap has been increased for 2010 to $1,860 for PT/SLP combined and $1,860 for OT. At this time, all reports indicate a strong likelihood that the exceptions process for therapy beyond the cap amount will be extended at least through Dec. 31, 2010. The House and Senate are expected to finalize a healthcare bill including an extension to the caps by the end of January 2010. However, until Congress agrees on a bill which is signed by the President, therapy services totaling more than $1,860 in 2010 will not be paid by Medicare. Please continue to contact your legislators to support elimination of the financial limitations on therapy for Medicare beneficiaries.
