Misty Broussard is a Speech/Language Pathologist with 19 years’ experience in long term care. She began her career as a therapist in a skilled nursing facility and advanced to State Director after three years. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and holds a professional license for speech-language pathology in Louisiana. She has also earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
Misty’s work history includes extensive experience evaluating and treating geriatrics in long term care and skilled nursing facilities. Her rehab management experience includes managing staffing and operations in skilled nursing facility, nursing home, school, acute hospital, sub-acute, hospital outpatient, early intervention, and hospice settings and providing staff training for rules and regulations in those settings. Misty has also served as a Clinical Fellowship Supervisor/Mentor for numerous new graduate Speech-Language Pathologist employees. Responsibilities include providing guidance with ASHA and state rules for code of ethics and scope of practice, onsite & offsite supervision of therapy treatments, and development of clinically competent skills.
Misty has extensive experience with operations in skilled nursing facilities. She has provided in- services to therapy staff, nursing staff and restorative aides to maximize patient care and patient functioning. She also has a vast knowledge and experience with denial management and has been directly involved in all levels of the denial process. She has been instrumental in teaching and training employees and clients in regards to the denial process as well as strategies to avoid denials. Misty has developed many educational programs for The Summit Rehab and has presented these across 3 states. Some presentations have been offered for continuing education for therapists’ licensure.
Misty makes her home in Columbia Louisiana with her two daughters, Ava and Emma. In her spare time she enjoys riding rollercoasters with 6-year- old Emma and helping 8- year- old Ava create her next short story.
